Welcome to Barney’s Friends

 

Mission Statement: Barney’s Friends, NFP, a qualified non-profit corporation, is established for the express purpose of helping God’s creatures who bring love into the world and are in need of assistance. We provide essential support including resources for food, shelter, clothing, medical needs, and protection with the ultimate goal of safety and well-being to innocent domestic animals.

Our Purpose: To identify and support needy qualified organizations of high integrity devoted to the loving care of domestic animals providing food, shelter, clothing, safety, and medical needs with an ultimate purpose to place them in homes where they will receive proper care and love.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Deuce has received Body Armor

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Deuce has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Tac’s vest is sponsored by Barney’s Friends of Hoffman Estates, IL and is embroidered with the sentiment “Donated by: Barney’s Friends”.

K-9 Deuce is a 2 ½ year old German Shepherd assigned to McHenry County Deputy Cosman. K-9 Deuce is certified in patrol duties and narcotics detection through the State of Illinois. K-9 Deuce is a high drive dog full of energy; although slim in stature K9 Deuce is wiry strong and loves his pull toy and red Kong ball. K-9 Deuce loves going to work and training. When off duty, K-9 Deuce really enjoys bugging his retired 12 year old, and out of shape, brother K-9 Rocky.

Deuce is a member of our family here at the Sheriff’s Office and we really appreciate the donation of the body armor to protect him.

DeKalb Police Department’s K9 Tac has received Body Armor

DeKalb Police Department’s K9 Tac has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Tac’s vest is sponsored by Barney’s Friends of Hoffman Estates, IL and is embroidered with the sentiment “Donated by: Barney’s Friends”.

DeKalb Police K9 Tac is a 4 year old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix from Slovakia. K9 Tac is handled by Officer Aaron Gates, a 9 year veteran with the DeKalb Police Department. K9 Tac has been partnered with Officer Gates since August of 2013. K9 Tac is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, article finds and criminal apprehension. K9 Tac has been successful in his patrol duties and is an asset to the DeKalb Police Department.

He is considered a member of the police department and we are grateful for this donation that will help to ensure his safety.



Hoffman Estates, IL Police Department’s K9 Dozer has received body armor

Hoffman Estates Police Department’s K9 Dozer has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Dozer’s vest is sponsored by Barney’s Friends of Hoffman Estates, IL and embroidered with the sentiment “Donated by: Barney’s Friends”.

K9 Dozer is a 3 year old German Shepherd, is certified in Patrol and Narcotics work and is assigned to Officer Adam Marak. K9 Dozer was born in Hungary and was purchased from Northern Michigan K9, located in Claire MI. Officer Marak has been a K9 handler with the Hoffman Estates Police Department since May of 2014, where he was paired up with K9 Dozer and graduated from Northern Michigan K9. Officer Marak and K9 Dozer are assigned to Patrol, where K9 Dozer has already assisted in seizing nearly $1,000,000.00 in drug related United States Currency and has located over 250 Lbs of narcotics. K9 Dozer loves to play with his tug toys and tennis balls, but enjoys keeping the streets of Hoffman Estates safe by hunting down drugs and bad guys even more.

These vests were obtained through Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 1,900 protective vests, in 49 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 1.7 million dollars. All vests are custom made in the USA by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI.
